We all do it. We select a show to watch based on the actors who are in the show. We have tried-and-true actors who we know will make the show. They rarely disappoint us and whatever show they are in we will most likely tune in.
Usually, these actors are the main stars, the leads or co-leads/secondary leads, but, I will often choose to watch a show if I know the show has a star-studded…supporting cast.
Here are a list of ten female actors that make any show they are in.
- Seo Jung Yeon
I first saw Seo Jung Yeon in Descendants of the Sun. She was a tertiary character, but she captured my attention. So much so that when I realized that she played an uppity in-law of a millionaire in The Lady of Dignity. And I fell in love with her character again in Castaway Diva. You can guarantee that if Seo Jung Yeon is in it, the show will be enchanting and heartwarming. Moreover, she is guaranteed to give a heartwarming performance.
2. Ra Mi Ran
Ra Mi Ran is simply hilarious. You might remember her best as one of the mothers in Reply 1988 and of course her lead role in The Good Bad Mother. She brings such amazing comic relief to any show but she also is an amazing dramatic actress. Her prolific acting career has also been recognized with awards. She has play many supporting roles and has been recognized for her amazing acting: she won Best Supporting Actress at the 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards and Best Supporting Actress at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards.
3. Lee Jung Eun
I love Lee Jung Eun. If there is a show that she is in, I will watch it. She stays booked and busy because she is a fantastic actor who gives heartfelt, emotional, and funny character portrayals. It might not be fair to put her on the list since she has been a main actor in shows since her rise to popularity in the international hit Parasite, but she has been a guest/supporting character for a lot of her career and delivering characters who leave a mark on you.
4. Kim Sun Young
Another actor I love. When I see her, I know the show will be good. She has played many supporting and guest roles and will finally be in a leading role in the upcoming show, A Virtuous Woman (which I am so excited to watch). She knows how to portray struggle; her face is so expressive, and even if her character is on the side, the emotions she shows on the screen are unforgettable.
5. Kim Mi Kyung
And speaking of struggle, there is Kim Mi Kyung. If there is a character who is a mother struggling to raise her children to the best of her ability, nine times out of ten, Kim Mi Kyung will be playing that mother. If she is playing the lead’s mother, I know the show will make me laugh, cry, and just feel good all over. You have probably seen Kim Mi Kyung recently portraying a haenyeo in Welcome to Samdal-ri. But you’ve also seen her playing a mother trying her best in Knight Flower, Agency, and Remarriage and Desires.
6. Cha Chung Hwa
I feel like Cha Chung Hwa is a top-tier comedic actor. She is very much a supporting actress, but she always plays the supportive neighborhood friend who has a quip or two to brighten the lead’s day. Every time I see her on screen, I enjoy the scene. I’ve enjoyed her characters in See You in My 19th Life, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, and of course, everyone’s favorite lady-in-waiting in Mr. Queen.
7. Baek Ji Won
She cracked my sides up in The Fiery Priest and I fell in love with her supporting role in Once Again. She is able to play the quiet/shy but slightly crazy character in a show very well. She will have you cracking up every time she is on screen. But she has range, her role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, she was sly and slick, utilizing her distinctive quiet voice to unnerve us as a ruthless head of the law firm. Either way, you can guarantee you will love to show if Baek Ji Won is playing a supporting role.
8. Shin Eun Kyung
I know her mostly from her bitchy role in The Penthouse: War in Life, but she can play that gangster housewife excellently. I’m looking forward to seeing her in the Escape of the Seven, which has been on my watchlist for a while.
9. Yeom Hye Ran
Yeom Hye Ran was the supporting/guest actress until her role in The Glory launched her into fame. She has such a range, leaning into the comedic, which was displayed well in her role in The Glory. But she has played amazing supporting roles in Mystic Pop-up Bar, When the Camellias Bloom, and The Uncanny Counter (even though she wasn’t exactly a supporting character). Now that she is a main actress, i look forward to her future work.
10. Lee Bong Ryun
Last but certainly not least, there is Lee Bong Ryun. She can play creepy, be funny, be your caring next-door neighbor, or be a menace, but best believe you will enjoy her character portrayals. You’ve seen her in Sweet Home, Crash Course in Romance, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and Destined With You.
