September Premieres

September Premieres

Okay, let’s talk about the K-drama releases for September 2024, what I’m excited about, what I’m not so sure about, and what I will wait to watch until later.

Queen Woo

Date: Aired 8/29

Genre: historical, action, melodrama

Episodes: 8

Plot: This is a dramatic retelling of I believe the actual historical figure Queen Woo (also the inspiration for History of Woo a popular skincare line. Anyway, Queen Woo has 24 hours to marry one of her late husband’s brothers, put him on the throne so she can essentially maintain her role as queen.

Thoughts: I’m gonna watch this one because I like historical shows, and I don’t see a lot of historical shows set in the Goreyo period.

Fragile

Date: Airs 9/9

Genre: A romance and youth drama with the school setting.

Plot: This focuses on the realistic concerns of teenagers and shows what they are going through which are real concerns despite many adults calling them fragile.

Thoughts: I will probably wait for a little later for this one if I watch it at all.

Seoul Busters

Date: Airs 9/11

Episodes:12

Genre: Mystery, Comedy, Drama

Plot: This is a crime investigation show depicting the nation’s lowest-ranking homicide squad paired with the country’s elite homicide squad leader to become the strongest team.

Thoughts: I am going to watch this. If it’s anything like Bad & Crazy or the Fiery Priest which were crime procedurals yet comedies, then, I will be watching this show.

The Judge from Hell

Date: 9/21

Episodes: 14

Genre: Romance, Crime, Drama, Fantasy

Plot: An elite judge, who is also a demon, must kill evil people who lead other people to their deaths, then ferry them to Hell. She then meets a sharp detective with baggage.

Thoughts: I love fantasy shows and getting a glimpse into Korean supernatural thought, so I will watch this.

Dear Hyeri

Date: 9/23

Episodes: 12

Genre: Romance, Drama, Melodrama, Psychological

Plot: An announcer with years of experience but little fame reunites with an ex-boyfriend who happens to be a super famous announcer. Both have wounds that need healing and maybe they can heal each other. Also there seems to be some kind of multiple-personality type situation, so dealing with mental health issues.

Thoughts: I haven’t mentioned any actors yet, because I didn’t really want this to be long and I wanted to talk about the shows on the merit of the plot alone, but I love Shin Hye Sun ever since Mr. Queen and in my mind, she can do no wrong. So, I am going to watch the show because of her.

Dog Knows Everything

Date: 9/25

Episodes: 12

Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life, Sitcom

Plot: The show follows three of friends in their 70’s who still have hopes and dreams and adventures.

Thoughts: I love dramas with an older cast, so I will be watching this.

Gyeongseong Creature, Season 2

Date: 9/27

Episodes: 7

Genre: Historical Fantasy, Horror

Plot: Deep sigh. The first season was only 10 episodes, so I feel like this could have all been one show, but this is the return and conclusion of the horror show set in 1945 in which a group of folks uncover the Japanese plot to use genetic engineering to create a biological weapon for war, a literal creature. This second season will take us from 1945 to 2024.

Thoughts: I’m going to watch it because I just want to see how they are going to wrap the show up. I’m going to begrudgingly watch this.

What Comes After Love

Date: 9/27

Episodes: 6

Genre: Romance, Melodrama

Plot: A Korean student studying abroad in Japan meets a Japanese man and they fall in love but break up. They meet five years later in Korea.

Thoughts: I will probably wait for this. No, I’m totally going to skip it. Nothing about this drama excites me in the least.

And finally, we have…

Iron Family

Date: 9/28

Episodes: 36

Genre: Mystery, Comedy, Romance

Plot: Two people who come from different lifestyles have an unforgettable experience 8 years prior to the start of the show. They reunite. The female of the pair has completely lost her vision but might be able to get it back through a single injection.

Thoughts: Many K-drama shows are dealing with disabilities and difference, like Twinkling Watermelon, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, so yes, I will be watching this.

I am seriously behind on all my K-drama watching for 2024. I had plans to watch 36 dramas but with this amazing list, perhaps I can still get that accomplished by the end of the year. These September releases look great. Let me know which shows you are looking forward to for September.
