Emotional Damage! All the Tears Shed for Queen of Tears

Queen of Tears has shown itself to be just that—a drama that has made me ugly cry for the past four episodes!

We are more than halfway done with the show with 12 episodes in and only 4 more to go, but who would think that within the first 3 minutes of episode 11, I would be balling my eyes out!

Let’s see where we are in the show so far. And some of my questions from episodes 1 and 2 have been answered.

  1. This dead sibling. It is implicated that there was a third sibling, but that child died, and it seems that the mother blames Hae-in for that child’s death, and Hae-in seems to blame herself as well.

Throughout the show, Hae-in’s mother has been just awful towards her. So much so that Hae-in’s aunt (who is the only family member who knows about Hae-in’s condition) tells her she should behave better towards Hae-in before she regrets it. We still don’t know why Hae-in’s mother decided to take out her anger and depression of her son’s death on Hae-in but safe to say she did and she knows she did but she couldn’t stop. I hope the show digs into this a bit more but I doubt they will. Hae-in and her mother seemed to have a coming to Jesus moment and a clearing of the air in episode 11 so I think that is all we will get.

2. Why did she break up with David Yoo?

Eun-seong (David Yoo) has really hit the crazy wall. We spotted this in episode two because who pulls a gun on a guy he just met, but Eun-seong really wants Hae-in to be his. But here is the thing, Eun-seong helped to demolish her family! Why would she want to be with him? He just can’t get that through his head. He is also actively trying to kill Hyun-woo, and when Hae-in finds out she is going to go ape-shit. But they have a brief discussion of why Hae-in and Eun-seong couldn’t be but I need more. Hae-in met Eun-seong in college and they were friends I guess but nothing more. She was going through issues in college and I think, if I am reading things correctly, Eun-seong was the facilitator of these troubles. So whenever she had an issue, she was forced to come to him. I guess the hope was that through trial and tribulation, she would fall in love with him. I guess Hae-in found out that he was the root of her problem and distanced herself from him.

But I need to know more. I don’t think I am going to get it, though.

3. What is the matchmaker’s angle, like why is she trying to divorce and remarry Hae-in?

So, the matchmaker is a matchmaker, an owner of a spa, and the butler of the Hong household. Her angle is money; it turns out she is a pawn in a larger scheme whose leaders are Eun-seong Yoo and his mother, Mo Seul-hee, who is also the Chairman’s long-time live-in girlfriend.

4. Does David Yoo have money, or is he poor and a scammer?

Yes, David Yoo, aka Yoo Eun-seong, is, in fact, wealthy and the son of Mo Seul-hee. He is also a scammer, and using Hae-in’s brother, Soo-cheol, he is able to take Queens Group shares and oust the family.

In short, Yoo Eun-seong is a wealthy and mentally ill scammer.

5. When did Hae-in and Hyun-woo start falling apart?

I think this was probably one of the most beautifully written parts of the show. A miscarriage is what creates a wedge in their relationship, and this can happen. Often, women underestimate how hurt the man in the relationship can be with a miscarriage. Often in shows, the man is seen as moving on too quickly because he can’t fully deal and process the pain. In this show, Hae-in is shown quickly taking down and getting rid of all the items in the nursery and overall appearing very cold towards the whole thing. Of course as the show goes on we realize that the miscarriage deeply affected Hae-in but it affect Hyun-woo too. Hyun-woo was fine handling the emotional labor of the relationship but in this case he needed someone to hold him. Hae-in needed someone to pull the emotions out of her, push her to vulnerability but Hyun-woo just couldn’t do it. So she bottled up her emotions and as we all do attack the person who is closest to us. But as the show has gone on, Hae-in and Hyun-woo are working towards seeing each other and talking TO each other.

Now, here is the 1 question and several suspicions I have for the rest of the show.

  1. Mo Seul-hee, girl, what money could you possibly want so much that you would plan for over 20 years to take down an entire family and company, murder several individuals, attempt to murder one, and send your child off to be adopted? Like there has to be more to her desire than I just want it because my word!
  2. Oh Eun-young is secretly wealthy, but Beom-ja won’t find out until after they are married. Yes, I think Beom-ja will marry again. And if I don’t get this marriage, I am going to be upset.
  3. I think Mo Seul-hee had a hand in the death of Hae-in’s older brother. Why does Eun-seong know that there was a boy who saved her from drowning? Either his mother told him the story, or he was there, but why?

I look forward to the next four episodes of Queen of Tears.
